Wood is a living material with excellent thermo-hydrometric characteristics: it allows the natural transpiration of moisture from inside to outside and viceversa. Solid wood quickly reaches the temperature of the surrounding environment, avoiding the standard radiation effect of traditional masonry buildings. Its hygroscopic capability maintains a constant humidity level inside the house, offering significant benefits to the health. The wooden house is good for those who live there: it affects the quality of life both from a psychological and a cerebral point of view: blood pressure, heart rate and stress level decrease, attention, creativity and concentration increase and body natural regeneration is enhanced.

In some countries it frequently happens to come across ancient log buildings that are still current from their structural and energetic point of view. Over time, wood takes on a natural color resulting from its oxidation. During the first few years, the log house, in particular the cuts and the south-facing walls, can be treated with linseed oil, appropriate for its preservative and breathable properties.

Due to the characteristics of the material and the blockbau construction system, the wooden house can overcome earthquakes, even of high intensity, unharmed. Wood is a resistant and elastic material with a much lower mass than concrete and bricks, it can stand up to significant shakes and lessen the effects of seismic actions. Both flexibility and compactness of this construction system together with the type of material create a perfect anti-seismic system.

The blockbau system provides greater guarantees than ordinary construction techniques as, for example, reinforced concrete and steel. 

Beyond all prejudices and despite having a low self-ignition temperature (around 300°C), wood does not loose its mechanical properties even while it is burning. 

THERMAL INSULATION

THERMAL INSULATION

Everyone knows the insulating properties of wood. Its low specific weight (density) guarantees an excellent degree of insulation. A log wall with an average diameter of 35cm is equivalent, in terms of thermal resistance, to 80cm of traditional perforated bricks, 400cm of stones and 470cm of concrete (data referring to thermal resistance only). Not by chance, these houses have been built in cold areas since the most ancient times. The thermal well-being and the hydrometric well-being go hand in hand, as the exchange of moisture between inside and outside  takes place without obstacles.

"My wife Francesca and I chose to live in a log house to lead a lifestyle close to nature. We were really satisfied with Uni-Ca' because the Malugani company followed us not only in both design and construction phases, but also in post-construction, showing interest in our final choices and last details.

We were happy because we've always talked with the same people, from the project on paper to the construction yard. In the end, they knew our tastes, what we liked and disliked for our home. It took us 305 days to get all the documents, then, since Emilio arrived, in 97 days we had the house built."
